Tynda (Russian: Тында) is a town of Amur Oblast, Russia. It is located in south central Siberia, Tynda the river (which flows a few miles east on the river Gliui, a tributary of the Zeya River), to 575 miles (839 km by road) northwest of Blagoveshchensk, the capital of the oblast and 6500 km (8000 miles) east of Moscow. Its population reached 37,871 inhabitants in 2009. The first settlement on the site of the present city was a winter camp and resting place, named Schkabury, built in 1917 in connection with the recent construction of the Amur Railway, on the road between the Amur and the gold fields of the river Timpton, a tributary of Aldan. In 1928 the town was then called Tyndinski, became a center for construction workers from the main road from the Amur to Yakutia. Plans for the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway, 1932, the place was listed as a possible future station. In 1933 he initiated the connection, about 180 km from the town to the Trans-Siberian Railway west of Skovorodino. In 1937 he launched the section to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the October Revolution.
