Located almost in the Ecuador, Singapore is a thriving city-state that has overcome its lack of natural resources to become one of the economic giants of Asia. In the crowded streets of Chinatown, fortune tellers, calligraphers and temple worshipers are still part of everyday life. In Little India you can buy the best materials to make saris, freshly ground spices or a picture of a Hindu god. In the small shops of Arab Street hears the cry of the imam from the nearby Sultan Mosque. Singapore may have changed their makeshift shelters boats opium and pearls for collectors of glass and concrete towers, and its wet picture of two-wheeled carriages for the wonders of technology. However, it is still possible to evoke the colonial period to take a gin and tonic under the languorous ceiling fans installed in the Raffles Hotel. This combination of Western modernity and Eastern and rich colonial past makes Singapore an attractive destination in Asia.

The Republic of Singapore (English: Republic of Singapore; in Chinese 新加坡 共和国, Xīnjīapō Gònghéguó, in Malay Republik Singapura, in Tamil: சிங்கப்பூர் குடியரசு, Siṅkappūr Kuṭiyarasu) is an island city-state located in the southern state of Johor in Peninsular Malaysia and northern Indonesia's Riau islands, separated from them by a strait. With 707.1 km ², is the smallest country in Southeast Asia. Singapore is the fourth largest financial center in the world, and plays a leading role in international trade and the global economy. It is also the second most densely populated in the world after Monaco. Singha means lion in Sanskrit, and pure city, so that Singapore means a city of lions. The island, formerly called "Temasek", was named "Singapura" in the fourteenth century by Prince Parameswara. This territory acquired considerable importance in the fourteenth century, but was destroyed by the Javanese and was not awarded until 1819, when Stamford Raffles founded the British settlement on the site where it is now the modern city. The Sultan of Johore and Temenggong leased this land to the Society of British East India. Through a treaty, in 1824 the island was ceded permanently to the company in exchange for an annuity to the Sultan of Johore. In 1826 Singapore joined Penang and Malacca, leaving control in the hands of an Indian government office and residence in Penang. In 1830 met under the presidency of Bengal, moved the residence to Singapore. On April 1, 1867 the authority of these three settlements of the Indian government passed the British minister of colonies. Cocos Islands, Christmas Island and the former colony of Labuan, were organized under the control of the governor of the Colony of the Straits (Straits Settlements) and incorporated in Singapore in 1900, 1903 and 1907, respectively. Singapore was established as a separate colony in 1912, being used as a naval base until the occupation japonesa.4
