Seattle / si ː ætəl / is the largest city in the State of Washington in the northwestern United States. The metropolitan area includes Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, is the 15th most populous country and the largest in the Northwest Pacific.2 The city is located between Lake Washington and Puget Sound Bay called, along the Pacific Ocean. It is located 155 kilometers south of the border between the U.S. and Canada. Important cultural, educational and economic development of the region, Seattle is the county seat of King. From 1869 to 1982, Seattle was known as "Queen City" (The Queen City, in Spanish) .6 The current official nickname of the city is "Emerald City" (The emerald city) as a result of a competition held to the early 1980.7 thereby referring to the lush surrounding trees. Seattle is also known as "Gateway to Alaska" (Door to Alaska), "Rain City" (City of Rain) 8 and "Jet City" due to the influence of the multinational Boeing, originally founded in the city and . Seattle is famous as the birthplace of grunge music also known as the Seattle sound, 9 and bands that led the movement in the early 90's as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Heart, the band of sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, famous rock band with over 30 year career, also originated in this city. A curious fact Seattle is also the birthplace of the famous rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. It is also known for the large amount of coffee consumed, 10 in addition to be originating from here cafes like Starbucks, 11 Seattle's Best Coffee and Tully's .12 There are also many independent artisan espresso roasters great success.10 In 1999 Seattle hosted the summit of the World Trade Organization, which sparked anti-globalization protests and riots known as N30 (having taken place on November 30) or the Battle of Seattle. The symbol and main attraction of the city is the Space Needle (Space Needle), a tower built in 1962 in the city center, by Edward E. Carlson and inspired by the tower of Stuttgart, Germany. It is a structure height of 184 meters weighs a ton 5,850, placing the center of gravity of the tower to just one meter from ground level.
