The Palais des Nations is a complex of buildings that were built between 1929 and 1937 within the Ariana Park in Geneva (Switzerland). He served as the headquarters of the League of Nations (SDN) until 1946. It was later occupied by the United Nations Organization and in 1966, the palace became its European headquarters (Office of the United Nations Organization in Geneva or UNOG) and the second most important after the host organization New York. Each year, the Geneva-site of the United Nations about 8000 hosts meetings between which there are about 600 major conferences. Some areas of the palace are accessible to approximately 100,000 people visit each year. After the founding of the League of Nations on January 10, 1920, the construction of the palace comes to competition in 1926. The jury is unable to choose between the 377 proposiciones1 and, therefore, commissioned the architects Carlo Broggi (Italy), Julien Flegenheimer (Switzerland), Camille Lefèvre, Henri-Paul Nénot (France) and Joseph Vago (Hungary) develop a common project. Finally, on September 7, 1929 was laid the first stone of a building of neoclassicism. In 1933, the secretariat of the League is installed in the area and the construction completed and in 1936, most of the staff at the headquarters was moved above the building nearing completion. The internal organization still has much of the materials offered by members of the SDN. Furthermore, under the first stone, is a time capsule containing inter alia the list of all members of the League of Nations, a copy of their acts and a coin from each member country. The SDN is already clearly politically paralyzed and has lost its influence and legitimacy. This will not change, resulting in its dissolution 1945.
