Mumbai is the capital of the state of Maharashtra in India. It is the most important port city in the subcontinent with over 40% of traffic outside of country.2 The name derives from the local goddess Mumba Devi. Between 1626 and 1995 was officially called "Bombay" It is the richest city and most populous in India, and the second most populous city with a population of about 13,830,884 inhabitants. Located on the west coast of India and has a port with natural depth. It is located on a narrow strip of land arising from the marshy coast of Maharashtra and enters the Arabian Sea. The city is the economic center of India and houses the world's largest film industry and is also hub and an important cultural center with numerous universities, theaters, museums and galleries. Many old buildings in Mumbai are built on a regional referral historista style. Two of the monuments, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminal and the cave temples of Elephanta, are on the list of World Heritage of Unesco.
