Montana is a U.S. state located in the Pacific Northwest and Great Plains. The Midwest is the third mountain ranges (approximately 77 named) of the ridge of the Rockies, this explains its name, derived from the Spanish word "mountain". The state nickname is the "Treasure State" (Treasure State). Other nicknames include "Land of mountains bright" (Land of Shining Mountains), "Big Sky Country" (Big Sky Country) and the slogan "The Last Best Place" (the last best place). In the ranking of states appears fourth in area, but only the 44th in population, and therefore has the third lowest density of the United States. The economy is based mainly on agriculture and timber and minerals. Tourism is also an important factor in its economy, with millions of visitors a year to Glacier National Park, the site of the Battle of Little Big Horn and Yellowstone National Park. With an area of 376,978 km ², Montana is the fourth largest state in the United States (after Alaska, Texas and California). In the north, Montana has international border with Canada -877 km border, the border world's longest undefended, bordering the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, more provinces than any other U.S. state. In addition, Montana borders the states of North Dakota and parts of South Dakota, to the east, Wyoming, south, and Idaho, west. The relief of state is different, but very defined by the Continental Divide of the Americas, which runs the state in a diagonal direction across it from northwest to south-central, and dividing into two distinct areas: the eastern regions, and regions of West. Montana is well known for its mountainous western part, most of which is a part, geologically and geographically, of the Rocky Mountains. However, about 60% of the state is actually prairie, part of the northern Great Plains. However, incluos east of the Continental Divide and the Rocky Mountain Front, there are numerous areas where abundant pasture microclimate.
