Other user descriptions
Míchigan2 (in English: Michigan) is one of the fifty states of the United States of America, located in the Great Lakes region in the Midwest (Midwest) in the country. Michigan is one of the nation's leading manufacturing industry. The national capital of the automotive industry is located in the state's largest city, Detroit. The state is the largest producer of cars and trucks in the United States. Michigan is also the second largest iron producer in the country. One of the best known nicknames is The Great Lakes Michigan State-The state of the Great Lakes. In fact, Michigan borders four of the five North American Great Lakes. Its coastline has 5,292 km long, and is one of the largest in the United States. No part of the state is located more than 137 miles offshore of the Great Lakes. Michigan is divided into two distinct areas, the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula, connected by a single bridge five miles long. Another nickname is The Wolverine State Michigan (State of the glutton) because during the early days of European settlement in the region, hunters and fur traders hunted and traded with Indians of the region large amounts of wolverine fur. Its name comes from Lake Michigan, whose name is a French adaptation of the Ojibwe from mishigani term, meaning "large lake" or "big water" .3 4 Michigan was originally colonized by the French. The French colonization of the region however was limited. Michigan France ceded to Britain in 1764. In 1783, after the end of the War of Independence of the United States, Michigan became the United States, becoming part of the Northwest Territory in 1787, an independent territory in 1805 and elevated to the status January 26, 1837, as 26th U.S. state to join the Union.
