Formerly, the Indian Ocean islands were virtually unknown as a tourist destination. When a majority imagine palm trees and trade winds, white sand and blue sea, was drawn in the mind of the South Seas or the Caribbean. Today this way of thinking has undergone a major shift. On the seventh sea was being recognized attractions, and travelers can note with satisfaction that prices are actually declining, a factor that encourages visitors to the most varied budgets to discover its wonders. Mauritius is considered the most accessible island in the Indian Ocean, can boast of being a tropical paradise-style Maui (Hawaii) or Martinique, but at a small price, having arrived, of course. While sprawled along the eastern coast of Africa, Mauritius has absorbed more of their British and French ties, together with the large Indian workforce received. Can enjoy a dish of curried chickpeas or a nice Yorkshire pudding on the terrace of French café, sipping imported wine or a thick ale, while playing folk music mixed with background noise caused by conversations in various languages. The amalgamation of Mauritius offer services to visitors ranging from luxurious hotels on the beach ready to satisfy every need of its customers (with organized tours), to rooms, next to car, renting the locals to travelers. If your greatest desire is focused on a peaceful beach holiday, Mauritius stands as an appropriate target, but one must remember the labyrinthine interior of the island and the multicultural Port Louis, the capital. Tsunami waves that struck the Indian Ocean in 2004 plunged an entire town in the north of the island, however, there has been no record of casualties.

In Mauritius you can visit cities like Grand Baie, Mahébourg, Mauritius or Port Louis
Other user descriptions
Mauritius (Mauritian Creole Moris), officially the Republic of Mauritius, an island nation located in the southwest Indian Ocean, 900 kilometers from the eastern coast of Madagascar and about 3,943 kilometers southwest of India. In addition to the island of Mauritius, the republic includes the islands of St. Brandon or Loaded Carajos, Rodrigues and Agalega Islands. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands, together with the French island of Réunion 200 km to the southwest. While the vast knowledge of Arab and Malay sailors on Mauritius was from the tenth century, the Portuguese arrived in 1505. The island remained uninhabited until 1638 when it was colonized by the Dutch. They named the island in honor of Prince Maurice of Nassau. Because climate change, cyclones and the deterioration of fertile soil, the Dutch abandoned the island some decades later. The French controlled the island during the eighteenth century and named it Île de France (Ile de France). Despite winning the famous Battle of Grand Port, which began on August 23, 1810 in the French naval forces under Commodore Guy-Victor Duperré defeated British forces commanded by Nesbit Willoughby, the French were defeated by the British north of the island, Cap Malheureux, a month after, and 6 December 1810 capitulated Mauritius vice Admiral Albemarle Bertie. This meant the loss of possession in favor of the British and the subsequent reversal of the island to its old name.
