Other user descriptions
Lüderitz is a harbor city of Namibia, situated in Karas, the southernmost region of the country. It has a population of 12,900 inhabitants. Founded in 1883 by Adolf Lüderitz, following the purchase of Angra Pequena and surroundings, a local Nama chief. The city began as a factory with activity in fishing and harvesting of guano. In 1909, after the discovery of diamonds in the area, Lüderitz became a thriving city. Today diamond mining is sparse, but still important.
